Diagnostic Features of Larvae
- Larva. Head rather thick, robust, clothed with short fine hairs; epistoma roundly declivous; labrum transverse, broadly-rounded from posterior margin; dorsal angle of mandible prominent, broad; one prominent ocellus; last joint of maxillary palpi conical, equal to second. Proeusternum glabrous, shining; prosternellum and mesonotum and metanotum dull velvety asperate, except for several tubercles1 on median area of metanotum; legs robust, femur and tibia subequal: tarsus short, conically acute. Ampullae seven, tubercles very conspicuously protuberant, separated, bead-like. Spiracles broadly oval, peritreme thin. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
Biology and Economic Importance
