Diagnostic Features of Larvae
- Mature larva. Rather similar to those of Grammoptera species, from which it differs as follows. Head only moderately depressed. Hypostoma much shorter and more strongly transverse; more than four times as wide as long, with sutures parallel in posterior half. One pair of ocelli present; lens large and pigmented spot distinct. Antenna similar to that of Grammoptera species. Abdomen with ampullae present only on segments one to six. Pupa. Similar to those of Grammoptera species, from which it differs as follows. Length 6-9.5 mm; maximum breadth 2.25 mm. Head with setae on clypeus and mandibles nearly as long as those on vertex. Pronotum with front margin only slightly rounded and nearly as broad as hind margin. Metanotum with eight to twelve long fine setae and scutellar groove very distinct. Abdomen with tergites each bearing a row of long fine setae. Ninth tergite terminating in a pair of short, stout urogomphi. Legs with tarsi as long as or longer than tibiae; hind femora extending to fourth abdominal segment. Adapted from Duffy (1953).
