Classification
Diagnostic Features of Larvae
- Larva. This species averages smaller in size than in Asemum productus, the asperities are finer, and the pubescence much finer and yellowish white instead of reddish brown as in A. productus. The chitinized portion of the proalar area is nearly glabrous. The caudal spines are on a common base and slightly compressed. The larva mines in the stumps of eastern species of Pinus, near the surface of the ground and down into the roots. The work is similar to that of A. productus. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
