Port Inspections

CBP Agriculture Specialists, please refer to manuals for general inspection guidelines.

The Brown fir longhorned beetle has been intercepted numerous times on raw wood products from China. Recently, it was found associated with lacquered pine log furniture, and it was previously found in the log trunks of artificial Christmas trees and other wood crafts made of minimally processed wood materials from China.

Look for frass and exit holes. Adults may have emerged and be present in unassembled furniture boxes. Eggs are laid in the cracks of tree bark.

The adults can be 6–12 mm long and chestnut brown, uniform orange, or reddish brown in color. Antennae are kept close to the sides of the body and bend back near the second pair of thoracic legs.

Larvae can be up to 10 mm long with light yellow in color.

Pupae are 7–10 mm long, oval shaped, and cream colored.
