Cardiocondyla obscurior
Lateral view of petiole, adult worker. The petiolar peduncle not appearing long (length not twice height), and thickens gradually as it tapers into node. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla minutior, Cardiocondyla obscurior and Cardiocondyla wroughtonii from Cardiocondyla kagutsuchi, Cardiocondyla mauritanica and Cardiocondyla venustula.
Cardiocondyla obscurior
Lateral view of waist, adult worker. The postpetiole, in profile view, is as high as petiole and with a distinct ventral bulge. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla emeryi, Cardiocondyla obscurior and Cardiocondyla wroughtonii from all other Cardiocondyla species.
Cardiocondyla venustula
Dorsal view of waist, adult worker. In dorsal view, the sides of the postpetiole are rounded, giving the postpetiolar disc a more ovoid than hexagonal appearance. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla venustula from Cardiocondyla kagutsuchi and Cardiocondyla mauritanica.
Cardiocondyla venustula
Lateral view of petiole, adult worker. The petiolar peduncle is long (length distinctly twice or more than height) and does not taper gradually into node. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla kagutsuchi, Cardiocondyla mauritanica and Cardiocondyla venustula from Cardiocondyla minutior, Cardiocondyla obscurior and Cardiocondyla wroughtonii.
Cardiocondyla venustula
Lateral view of waist, adult worker. The postpetiole, in profile view, is lower than petiole and lacking a distinct ventral bulge. Used in Antkey to separate Cardiocondyla kagutsuchi, Cardiocondyla mauritanica and Cardiocondyla venustula from all other Cardiocondyla species.
Cerapachys biroi
Lateral view of head, adult worker. There are no pigmented ommatidia visible on the head. If a facet is visible, it not distinctly pigmented. Used in Antkey to separate Amblyopone zwaluwenburgi, Prionopelta antillana, Cerapachys biroi and Hypoponera zwaluwenburgi from all other species.
Crematogaster obscurata
Lateral view of body, surface characters, adult worker. Short thick erect hairs abundant on head and mesosoma. Photo by April Nobile, Antweb.org, modified.
Crematogaster obscurata
Lateral view of body, surface characters, adult worker. The head and mesosoma lack abundant short, thick and slightly flattened hairs that are light in color. If erect hairs are present, they are sparse, fine and never appearing flattened. Used in Antkey to separate Crematogaster obscurata from Crematogaster scutellaris.
