Monomorium pharaonis
Lateral view of thorax / mesosoma, adult worker. The mesosoma is entirely covered in a punctate ground sculpture giving it a uniformly dull appearance. Used in Antkey to separate Monomorium pharaonis and the Monomorium salomonis-group from other Monomorium.
Monomorium salomonis
Lateral view of thorax / mesosoma, adult worker. The dorsal surface of the mesosoma may have appressed pilosity, but it lacks erect hairs. Used to distinguish species in the Monomorium salomonis-group (Monomorium salomonis and Monomorium subopacum) from all other Monomorium species in Antkey.
Monomorium subopacum
Lateral view of thorax / mesosoma, adult worker. The dorsal surface of the mesosoma may have appressed pilosity, but it lacks erect hairs. Used to distinguish species in the Monomorium salomonis-group (Monomorium salomonis and Monomorium subopacum) from all other Monomorium species in Antkey.
Myrmica rubra
Anterior view of head, adult worker. The cephalic sculpture of Myrmica rubra is characterized by long longitudinal carinae that rarely intersect. Contrasts with the strongly reticulated cephalic sculpture of Myrmica specioides.
Myrmica rubra
Anterior view of frontal carina, adult worker. The frontal lobes are narrow, distinctly longer than broad and taper anteriorly. Used in Antkey to separate Myrmica rubra from Myrmica specioides.
Myrmica specioides
Anterior view of frontal carina, adult worker. The frontal lobes are short and broad, and are distinctly rounded anteriorly. Used in Antkey to separate Myrmica specioides from Myrmica rubra.
Myrmica specioides
Anterior view of head, adult worker. The cephalic sculpture of Myrmica specioides is strongly rugoreticulate and characterized by longitudinal carinae that are frequently intersected by shorter transverse carinae. This character state contrasts with the predominately longitudinal cephalic carinae of Myrmica specioides that rarely intersect.
