Taxonomic history

Xyleborus insidiosus Cognato and Smith, 2019 (in Cognato et al. 2019): 1280.


2.7−2.8 mm long (mean = 2.74 mm; n = 5); 3.0−3.5 times as long as wide. This species is distinguished by declivital interstriae 1 laterally broadened from base to declivital midpoint then narrowing towards apex; large body size; broad discal interstriae, four times the width of discal striae; discal strial punctures three times the diameter of those of interstriae; declivital striae and interstriae clearly distinguishable, striae clearly impressed; interstriae uniformly granulate, never denticulate; anterior half of pronotum strongly shagreened; and posterolateral margin of declivity carinate to interstriae 6.

Xyleborus glabratus and X. mysticulus

This species has been collected from Fagaceae as well as unidentified punky wood (Cognato et al., 2019).


Specimens of Xylebrous insidiosus were collected together with X. glabratus at two collection events in northern Vietnam.
