Bee morphology

 

These illustrations show basic bee morphology along with areas on the bee body that harbor mites. Cavities within the bee's body are called acarinaria. Phoretic mites may also latch onto intersegmental spaces on the bee's body.

Note that internal areas (tracheae and air sacs) that may bear parastic mites and areas where mites may be plainly visible, are not shown.
