Name and publication

Thuja plicata Donn ex D. Don, A. B. Lambert, Desc. Pinus 2: 19 (1824).


Branchlets of western red-cedar or arborvitae appear occasionally in potpourri and are sold as “cedar tips.” The flattened branchlets, typically 3-10 cm long in potpourri, bear overlapping scale-like leaves.

Nativity and distribution

Thuja plicata is native to western North America.
