Alnus nitida (Spach) Endl., Gen. pl. Suppl. 4(2): 20 (1847).

Description

The 2.5-3.5 cm woody cones (strobiles, catkins), or aggregate fruits, of the West Himalayan alder are called “birch cones” in the potpourri trade, and are sometimes tipped with white paint.

Nativity and distribution

This large tree ranges from India to Nepal.
