Southern Africa.

Brief characterization

Terminal umbels of trumpet-shaped, lily-like, erect or pendent flowers on leafless scapes; umbel subtended by 2 scarious spathe bracts; flowers usually zygomorphic, with 6 distinct, recurved, more or less wavy-margined tepals in 2 equal whorls of 3; stamens 6, suberect or declinate.

Cultivar and/or species variation

Umbels 10-20 cm across, more or less spherical; flowers white, pink, or red, to 8 cm across, mostly 7-10 per umbel; tepals usually strongly recurved; stamens shorter to longer than recurved tepals.
