Brief characterization

Straight, thin, unbranched stems bearing yellow spheres which are compound heads 3-4 cm in diameter, of many densely packed individual discoid heads; each 3-10 flowered individual head subtended by scarious phyllaries in one series; corolla yellow, short lobed; pappus prominent, of long, yellowish, recurved, plumose bristles.
