Type Species

 

Sternoplispa triformis Uhmann.

Diagnosis

 

Sternoplispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • body wedged-shaped expanding apically
  • the lateral margins of the pronotum and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotum with a seta in each anterior angle, with two blunt teeth on anterior margin
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length and 3 regular costae, humerus rounded without spine or tooth
  • the antennae thickened at apex, with 10-antennomeres
  • leg with apical tarsomere bearing 2 claws, mesofemora without tooth
  • anterior margin of prosternum expanding forward partly covering mouth

Description

 

Head: vertex with small triangular depression, impunctate; medial sulcus present.

Antenna: with 10‑antennomeres; antennomere 1 subglobose; 2 and 3 cylindrical; 4 to 6 transverse, narrower than preceding; 8 to 9 transverse, wider than preceding; 10 pointed at apex.

Pronotum: longer than wide, convex; basal impression present.

Scutellum: rounded at apex.

Elytron: lateral margin dentate; triangular tooth present on external apical angle; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row; tricostate.

Venter: prosternum projecting forward, with two blunt teeth present on anterior margin.
