Type Species


Leptispa atricolor Pic.



Ovotispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • body elongate-ovate, convex
  • lateral margin of pronotum and elytra without long, stiff spines
  • head without frontal horn between antennae, clypeus large
  • pronotum with seta in anterior angle
  • elytra without tooth-like projection at apex, without tubercles or costae
  • mesosternum short
  • apex of mesotibia reaches beyond hind coxa



Body elongate-ovate; convex; color metallic blue.

Head: large; vertex sparsely punctate, medial sulcus absent; eye elongate-oval, flattened.

Antenna: with 11-antennomeres; reaches to base of pronotum.

Pronotum: transverse; convex; lateral margin slightly sinuate; anterior angle rounded; anterior margin emarginate medially; posterior margin bisinuate; surface irregularly punctate; basal impression absent.

Scutellum: quadrate; impunctate.

Elytron: expanding apically; lateral margin smooth; exterior apical angle rounded; apex rounded, apical margin smooth; sutural angle without tooth; humerus rounded; finely punctate-striate.

Venter: pro-, meso-, and metasterna punctate; mesosternum short; abdominal sterna punctate, each puncture with pale seta; suture between sterna 1 and 2 obsolete medially.

Leg: short, robust; punctate, each puncture with pale seta; apex of mesotibia reaches beyond coxa.
