Diagnosis

 

Octocladiscus can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotum and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn; mouthparts not projecting forward
  • the pronotum with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra without costae, rounded
  • the antennae with 11-antennomeres, pectinate (comb-like) from antennomeres 4 to 10

Description

 

Body broadly oval, flattened.

Head: vertex punctate; eye finely faceted.

Antenna: with 11-antennomeres, 1/2 length of body; antennomeres 2 and 3 short, following antennomeres longer; male pectinate from antennomeres 4 to 10; female filiform, with projection on antennomeres 4 to 10.

Pronotum: at midline 2x as wide as long; lateral margin strongly rounded, narrowing anteriorly; disc impunctate; large shallow punctures present laterally and basally.

Scutellum: elongate triangle.

Elytron: oblong-oval, wider than pronotum; margined laterally; pygidium visible from above; with 10 rows of punctures plus scutellar row.

Venter: with 5 visible abdominal sterna.
