Mimoecthispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotum and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn, frons projecting, vertex without medial sulcus
  • the pronotum with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures at base and 9 apically, with 3 weak costae
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, with 8-antennomeres, antennomere 8 the largest
  • the prosternum does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth



Oblong‑elongate, somewhat dilated apically, shining.

Head: vertex micropunctate; medial sulcus absent; frons with projection at base of antenna; clypeal margin evenly arcuate.

Antenna: with 8‑antennomeres, antennomeres 1 to 6 small; 7 elongate, as long as 4 to 6 combined; 8 largest, 3x length of 7, apex somewhat attenuate.

Pronotum: widest at base, narrowing anteriorly; disc impunctate; basal impression present, with scattered punctures; laterally with dense, large punctures.

Scutellum: triangular; micropunctate.

Elytron: lateral and apical margins dentate; flattened lamina present from exterior apical angle to suture; humerus pronounced; with 8 rows of punctures at base, expanded to 9 rows apically, additional row present between costae 2 and 3; tricostate, costa 3 as wide as a puncture row.
