Type Species

 

Odontota coarctatus Chapuis (=Chalepotatus scitulus Weise).

Diagnosis

 

Chalepotatus can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotum and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotum with a seta in each anterior angle, finely margined, without lateral teeth
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 10 rows of punctures at base and 9 on apex and 4 regular costae, humerus rounded without spine or tooth
  • the antennae thickened at apex, with 11-antennomeres
  • leg with apical tarsomere bearing 2 claws
  • anterior margin of prosternum expanding toward mouth

Description

 

Body elongate, moderately flattened.

Head: clypeus smooth or setose, with medial carina ending in a tooth before antennal base.

Antenna: with 11‑antennomeres.

Pronotum: lateral margin rounded; disc smooth, shiny.

Elytron: at humeri little wider than pronotum, sides moderately parallel; apex conjointly rounded; with 10 rows of punctures plus scutellar row, puncture rows 5 to 8 narrowed to two rows on basal ½; 4 costae, costa 3 united with 4 for ¼ its length.

Venter: prosternum with mid‑anterior projection.

Leg: short.
