Diagnosis

 

Callispa (Callispella) can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • Body oval or ovate, convex
  • lateral margin of pronotum and elytra without long, stiff spines
  • pronotum with seta in each posterior angle, anterior angle distinctly rounded
  • elytra with scutellar row of punctures
  • head with triangular projection between antennae, eyes large and convex
  • pronotum with distinct lateral impressions
  • suture between abdominal sterna 1 and 2 obsolete medially
  • antennae as long as head and pronotum combined, very slender, antennomere 3 elongate

Description

 

Elongate oval; convex; head and antennae black, pronotum reddish or yellowish, elytra metallic blue or blue-black.

Head: large; convex; with triangular projection between antennal bases; eye large, convex; surface irregularly punctate.

Antenna: ½ length of head and pronotum combined; very slender; filiform; antennomere 3 2x length of 1 and 2 or 4 and 5 combined.

Pronotum: transverse; convex; lateral margin rounded, converging from base to apex; anterior angle with small tooth; anterior margin sinuate; posterior margin bisinuate; posterior angle acute; surface irregularly punctate; transverse basal impression present.

Scutellum: cordate; small.

Elytron: lateral margin smooth; apex rounded; sutural angle without tooth; humerus rounded, not produced; surface irregularly punctate-striate, scutellar row absent; no costae.

Leg: long; robust.

Cameroon, Congo, French Guinea, Guinea, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda.
