The worldwide trade in plants for the aquarium and pond hobbies is a multi-million dollar industry, and the movement of aquatic plants across international borders is of considerable quarantine concern, since some taxa may become serious weeds outside their native habitats. This tool aims to cover all genera of freshwater aquatic and wetland plants currently cultivated in the aquarium and pond plant trade around the world. Aquarium and Pond Plants of the World was developed specifically for United States quarantine officials responsible for inspecting shipments and identifying aquatic plants imported or exported for sale in the aquarium and pond plant industry worldwide, but it may also be useful for domestic surveys, for foreign quarantine officials, or for people in the aquatic plants trade. The tool includes fact sheets, an interactive image gallery, and a multi-entry key to support identification of plants grown for the aquarium and pond industry.
