Rhizomes perennial, foliage annual. Rhizome stout, erect. Leaves in basal rosette; petioles elongate; leaf blade large, sagittate. Inflorescence a spadix, mostly concealed by spathe; spadix bearing male flowers apically, female flowers basally. Perianth absent; anthers united into a mass. Dispersal by fleshy berries.
