Brief description

Perennial. Leaves in a rosette; leaf blade linear to cordate, involute in bud (cf. Cryptocoryne); margin entire or undulate; distinctly heterophyllous between emersed and submersed growth forms. Inflorescence a short spadix, enclosed in dilated base (kettle) of spathe; spathe tubular, limb ovate to elongate, usually twisted.
